Jejunostomi is the manufacture of surgical opening (stoma) through the skin on the front of the abdomen and jejunum wall (part of the small intestine). This can be done by endoscopy, or by formal surgery.
A jejunostomy may be established after bowel resection in cases where there is a need to pass through the distal colon and/or colon due to intestinal leak or perforation. Depending on the length of the jejunum that is resected or bypassed the patient may have short bowel syndrome and require parenteral nutrition.
A jejunostomy is different from the jejunal feeding tube which is an alternative to gastrostomy feeding tubes commonly used when gastric enteral feeding is contraindicated or carries significant risks. The advantage over gastrostomy is the low risk of aspiration due to its distal placement. Losses include small bowel obstruction, ischemia, and the need for continuous breastfeeding.

Technique
The Witter jejunostomy is the most common method of jejunostomi creation. This is an open technique in which the jejunosotomy lies 30 cm distally to the Ligament of Treitz at the antimesenter border, with a tunnel catheter in the seromuscular groove.
