Value and Confidence
Father Eric Dykstra's leadership states that The Crossing is "always, just about Jesus," and focuses on reaching out to people who are usually uncomfortable or not welcome in traditional churches. The Church seeks to "embrace culture rather than escape from it... to reach more people in an effort to introduce them to Jesus". Church websites state that they "maintain a traditional theological position." The Crossing's Statement of Faith is available on its website, as well as its code of values.

Ministries and Outreach
The Crossing College
The Crossing College begins in 2013 to provide an opportunity for people to grow in their faith and gain the knowledge and tools to run their calls. The Crossing College offers opportunities in Biblical and Theological Studies, Leadership and Service Training, Personal Development and Spiritual Development, and Internships through two courses: a Diploma in Biblical Studies or an Associate Degree in Church Leadership and Service. The Crossing College is accredited through Transpar Accrediting Commission International (TACI).
TWIRL
In 2010, Pastor Kelly Dykstra started TWIRL, the first female ministry in The Crossing. According to the church website, "The purpose of TWIRL is to thrill the Crossing women (and their friends) with their unique design truths from God, and to move them to TWIRL - with open arms, generous hearts, and meaningful mutual friendship -the same will change the world. "Through TWIRL, The Crossing women join together to support A21 Campaign to help wipe out human trafficking and sex slave trade. They also raise funds for various local and global initiatives.
Free Grace Recovery
Free Grace Recovery is a 12-step, faith-based recovery group that "gives people a safe place to find freedom from anything: from past pain and current struggle to hard-core addiction." Hundreds of people in the Elk River region, including many teenagers, have found freedom from all kinds of addictions through CR programs.
Compassion For All Orphanages
The Crossing fully sponsors the Compassion for All orphanage in Haiti, via C3 Global and Hunger Relief International. From the time he first took an orphanage in 2010, teams from The Crossing have visited several times to encourage, bring supplies, and assist in improving facilities. The building inhabited 33 children was cursed, so The Crossing organized a fundraiser to raise enough money to buy land and build a new building. Fundraisers have also been held in churches to provide children with clean water sources, much needed propane stoves, and roofs.
Local Outreach
Since it first began in 2004, The Crossing has reached the surrounding community in various ways. An ad printed by the church in a local newspaper states, "we do not just want to see a change of life in the church, we want to see people's lives changed in a positive way in our community and around the world." Outreach events include food and clothing drives, food packaging at Feed My Starving Children, 5Ks community hosting for various causes, and many others.

Criticism
In September 2010, The Crossing opened its second satellite campus in a bar. An article in West Sherburne Tribune spread the rumor that alcohol is served in service.
In February 2011, Reverend Eric Dykstra was criticized for buying a car and a house after a church building campaign. This campaign is a typical non-profit capital campaign, and is titled "The Samurai Code of Ethics." The people of The Crossing are challenged to give more than possible to expand the Elk River Campus and eventually open an additional Crossing campus throughout Minnesota. Church members, including Dykstras, donated large sums of money to the church, and raised a three-million-dollar promise to finance the vision. When asked about the purchase he made after the campaign was over, Dykstra explained that he and his family had moved because "2,000 plus people know exactly where we live... we have people who stop at home constantly to the point where I am really have peace in my home rather than at work. "He added that since they live farther away from work and from their three children's schools, they need a Chevy 2000 truck as their second vehicle.
In September 2011, the church was accused of controlling too much of its members; former participants voiced fear that the church had become a sect. Pastor Kelly Dykstra responded by saying that the Crucifixion followed Jesus, but "whenever an organization does something different, it becomes a suspect." Pastor Eric Dykstra stated that he had misquoted and that he was just "following Jesus and teaching the Bible [in the usual way, ordinary people drinking beer, people who eat McDonalds" can understand and connect with.
