Histori
During the 1940s, since pet food was not available in stores, the animals were mostly fed homemade food, usually pieces of the table. Paul Iams, an animal nutritionist who graduated from Ohio State University in 1938, founded The Iams Company in 1946 at a small feed mill near Dayton. In 1950, he developed the world's first animal protein, dried dog food and called it Iams 999. In 1969, Paul Iams formulated a new dog food and renamed it Eukanuba. Before setting up Iams and Eukanuba, he worked for a number of companies including his father's feed business in Dayton, Ohio.
In 1973 during the Arab oil embargo, the cost of eating meat and bone increased threefold, but the selling price was frozen by national wages and price controls issued by President Richard Nixon. Iams did not change the product formula during the freezing price mandate and the company was almost bankrupt. Clay Mathile, who joined Iams in 1970, bought half of the company in 1975. In 1982, he became the sole owner and president. After expanding the company from a $ 100,000 turnover in 1970 to $ 900 million in 1999, Mathile sold it to P & amp; G in September 1999. In July 2006, P & amp; G reorganized Pet Health & amp; Nutritional distribution to P & amp; G Pet Care (consisting of Iams and Eukanuba brands).
In its biggest divestment in five years, Procter & amp; Gamble announced in April 2014 that it would sell Iams, Eukanuba and Natura food brands in all markets except Europe to Mars, Incorporated for $ 2.9 billion in cash. P & amp; G said the deal would allow him to lose a slow player and make money to grow his core business. Agreement for P & amp; G Pet Care in North America and Latin America finished in August 2014. Mars, Inc. also runs the option to acquire the pet food business P & amp; G in some regions of Asia Pacific, Middle East and Africa, including Australia, Japan and Singapore. P & amp; G sold the European pet care business to Spectrum Brands in December 2014.

Iams Homepage 4 Holiday
In 1999, Helen Woodward Animal Center and Iams founded Iams Home 4 the Holidays (IH4TH), a travel pet adoption vacation. The journey begins with 14 animal rescue organizations in San Diego and has expanded its network to over 3,500 in 21 different countries. Since its inception in 1999, the adoption program has helped put more than 4.6 million pets into homes.
In 2008 and 2009, actress and pet adoption supporters Felicity Huffman and Hilary Swank served as celebrity ambassadors for the IH4TH program. In 2010, five million meals were donated to a network of animal shelters through the IH4TH Bags 4 Bowls program.
Controversy
In 2002, a film by the animal rights organization PETA criticized Iams for the way companies conduct animal research in an external laboratory. Iams ended his relationship with Sinclair Research Center in 2003, stating that the film's activity was against the long-standing policy of animal research. According to Iams, since 2006, research has been done at home of pet owners, P & amp; G Pet Care's Pet Health & amp; The Nutrition Center, and the location where dogs and cats are living like dog aid organizations. These centers and these studies are subject to unannounced examination by ASPCA.
