The Greater Boston Food Bank (GBFB), located in Boston, Massachusetts, is a nonprofit organization that serves over 500,000 people annually through a network of nearly 600 members of hunger relief agencies throughout eastern Massachusetts.. The current President and CEO of the Food Bank is Catherine D'Amato. The Greater Boston Food Bank is a member organization of Feeding America, formerly known as the Second Harvest of America.

The Greater Boston Food Bank provides hunger assistance to about 500,000 people each year, according to "Hunger in Eastern Massachusetts 2014," a study that is part of a national initiative pioneered by Feeding America. According to the study, about one-third (125,000) household members served by GBFB have children under the age of 18, and about 20% of clients at the program locations served by The Greater Food Bank are aged 65 and older. 72% of households need to use food pantry regularly to eat enough.
History
The Boston Food Bank was founded by Kip Tiernan and was legally founded in 1981. Originally located at 71 Amory Street in the Jamaica Plain section of Boston and moved to 99 Atkinson Street in Boston's Newmarket section in 1992. Boston Food Bank was officially renamed The Greater Boston Food Bank in 1993.
The Greater Boston Food Bank suffered ground damage in 2007 at a 2.8 acre site (11,000 m 2 ) from a new facility at 70 South Bay Ave (former South Bay Incinerator house), across the street from the location organization before. The facility was completed in March 2009. The 117,000 square foot facility (10,900 m 2 ), named the greater Yawkey Distribution Center of the Boston Food Bank will allow The Greater Boston Food Bank to improve distribution to ultimately accommodate 50 million pounds of food and daily necessities products.
