The 1998 NBA All-Star Game is the 48th edition of the National All-Star American Basketball Games. The event was held at Madison Square Garden in New York City. The East won the game 135-114. In addition to the NBA All-Star game, there are two other events happening on All-Star Weekend including Rookies Game and Three-Point Shootout.

This game is the debut of All-Star Game from Kobe Bryant, the youngest star in NBA history at the age of 19, and rookie Tim Duncan. Bryant scored 18 points. Michael Jordan won the MVP award, scored 23 points, grabbed 6 rebounds and took 8 assists despite the flu. This is Jordan's third MVP award. The game features four stars from the Los Angeles Lakers. The Western Conference was trained by George Karl of the Seattle SuperSonics and Eastern Conference coached by Larry Bird of the Indiana Pacers.
It marks the only All-Star game featuring Kobe Bryant, who is the youngest player in NBA history in all-star games and Michael Jordan where Jordan is with the Chicago Bulls. Jordan came out of retirement for the last time in 2001 and played two more seasons (and was selected for the two-year All-Star team) for the Washington Wizards. In 1998, Michael Jordan led all players in the All-Star Game with 1,028,235 votes from fans. This is also the first year that Shaquille O'Neal can play in the All-Star Game. He was sidelined in 1997 due to a severe knee injury. He shot 5-for-10 from the field, scoring 12 points and grabbing 4 rebounds.

Rookies Game Rookies
The NBA Rookies game takes place on Fridays before the All-Star Game. The coaches of the team are Willis Reed for East and Dave DeBusschere for West. The East will win their consecutive rookies match as Zydrunas Ilgauskas, the Cleveland Cavalier center becoming the first internationally recognized player as MVP game. The 3-point shooting was held on Saturday before the all-star game. It contains 8 contestants, all from different teams. There are three rounds in which four rounds to the semifinals and two more to the final. Jeff Hornacek, Huber Davis, Dale Ellis, and Charlie Ward all made the semi-final with Jeff Hornacek and Hubert Davis competing in the finals. In the end, it was Jeff Hornacek who won 3 Point Shootouts.
