Hammermills are impact grinders with swinging or stationary steel rods that force materials against circular screens or densely packed parts designed as striking plates. The material is stored in the milling room until it is reduced by the size of the openings on the screen. The number of hammers on the rotating shaft, size, arrangement, sharpness, rotation speed, wear pattern, and clearance at the end relative to the screen or the conspicuous plate are important variables in milling capacity and ground feed display.
The combination of cutting, attrition, and destruction occurs in rollermills. It is a smooth or wavy coil that rotates at the same rate set at a predetermined distance with material passing between them. Tearing action can be added by operating the coils at different speeds and different for each roll.
The purpose of mixing the feed is to start with a variety of ingredients called "formulas", with a certain total weight. This is processed so that each small unit of the whole, whether mouthful or daily meal, is the same proportion as the original formula. The mixing process is done in the vertical tank. This determines the balanced nutritional quality of the feed.
After the feed is milled and mixed, it passes through a particulate screen system. From there, only suitable grains are forwarded to the delivery process, and the waste is sent to the charging channel.
