Elisabeth Williams-Omilami (born February 18, 1951) is an American human rights activist and an actress.

Life and career

Born in Atlanta, Williams-Omilami is the daughter of activist Hosea Williams and the State Representative of Georgia, Juanita T. Williams. The young life of Williams-Omilami was spent with the Civil Rights movement in the 1950s, 1960s and 1970s. After graduating from college, he created Theater Survival Rakyat , resulting in a five-show season per year. The People's Survival Theater continued to produce long-running shows after Williams-Omilami's trip to New York City when her husband Afemo Omilami received a scholarship to New York University. In New York, Williams-Omilami works as an art administrator and executive assistant. Williams-Omilami directs and acts as much as she can, supporting her family as her husband's career grows. In 1985, Williams-Omilami left New York to return to Atlanta. While at Atlanta Williams-Omilami continued performing on stage and in movies and television. Williams-Omilami graduated from Hampton University with a BA in Theater.

Activism

Williams's parents-Omilami brought him in the march and Civil Rights movement in the South since he was young. During the height of the Civil Rights Movement, Williams-Omilami attended a boarding school to the Wasatch Academy in Utah where he was the only African-American student. Williams-Omilami has worked for over 15 years in the background of his father's efforts, and after his death in November 2000 became CEO of the organization, expanding the organization from a $ 200,000 budget to more than $ 1 ,5 million. Williams-Omilami works to provide programs that will meet the basic needs of the working poor and homeless throughout a series of treatments that lead to independence. Williams-Omilami extends these programs from four months to service throughout the year and establishes medical clinics, clothing distribution, barber and beauty services, children's education programs, and home delivery of over 22,000 dinners per year. Williams-Omilami has spoken and toured the world for several international relief efforts in places like the Philippines, where he has established and operated schools for underprivileged Mindanou children, and Haiti and Uganda, where he sponsored several orphanage.

Williams-Omilami has been recognized many times for his humanitarian service. Honorary membership honors in the Zeta Phi Beta championship, Georgia State Senate Resolution in recognition of his community service, the Atlanta Business League, 100 Influence Wives, Only for Sisters, Women in Film Humanitarian Awards, Georgia State Secretary of State, State of Georgia Ambassador Large, YWCA Academy of Achievement, Burger King Urban Everyday Heroes, Kraft Community Service; South Christian Leadership Conference Women's Major Drum for Justice, T. D. Jakes Woman Phenomenal, Women's Community Service Award, Emory University M.L.K. Public Service Award and National Conference of Black Mayor Fannie Lou Hamer Unsung Heroine Award.

Theater and movies

Williams-Omilami founded one of the earliest theater companies in the Atlanta People's Survival Theater, and "Summer Artscamp", provides an art program for youth that is economically challenged for over 7 years. Williams-Omilami is a playwright who has written several dramas, one of which is There River Inside My Soul . He is a past member of the Georgia Arts Council and Fulton County Arts Council and is a passionate advocate for art to be instituted as a permanent part of society. She is an actress and has performed at the Theater Alliance at A Christmas Carol and in early 2002 at Left Hand Sing in South Jewish Theater . She can also be seen in the HBO movies made for TV Boycott , In the Heat of the Night and the award winners I Will Fly Away .
