Chad Robert Turton (born November 15, 1974), known professionally as Chad Kroeger ( ), is a Canadian musician and producer, best known as lead vocalist and guitarist for the Canadian rock band Nickelback. In addition to his work with Nickelback, Kroeger has been involved with various collaborations, emerging as a guest musician in several songs and has contributed in the production and songwriting. He has written several songs for other artists and for movies.

Kroeger was born Chad Robert Turton in Hanna, Alberta on November 15, 1974. His maternal grandfather was Alberta MLA Henry Kroeger, who was born in Moscow, Russia, to a Mennonite family of German descent. After his father left the family when he was two years old, he started away with his maiden name from Kroeger. He learned to play guitar at the age of 13 years.

Nickelback
In the early 1990s, Kroeger was part of the grunge cover band, The Village Idiots, with his cousin Brandon Kroeger and Nickelback bassist Mike Kroeger (his brother) and singer Ryan Peake. In 1995, Kroeger, Peake, Mike Kroeger, and then drummer Brandon Kroeger, formed the Nickelback band. Kroeger continued to record and tour with this successful band for over 20 years.

In 2001, Kroeger, with the help of lawyer Jonathan Simkin, founded The Suits XL band. The band members included Sam Loubier-Demers and Yohann Gosselin on vocals and guitar, drummer Patrick Paquet, keyboardist Felix-Antoine Berube and singer Oliver Roy de Belleval. The following year, he founded Vancouver, British Columbia based 604 Records. Then, in 2006, The Suits XL released the album through this label. The following year the band was nominated for an Indie Canada Award.

Kroeger produces music for the default bands, Theory of a Deadman, and Bo Bice.
Kroeger, along with vocalist Saliva Josey Scott, Theory of a Deadman lead vocalist Tyler Connolly and drummer Our Lady Peace Jeremy Taggart, performed the theme song "Hero" for the hit movie Spider-Man in 2002. Also in 2002, Kroeger wrote and sang in "Why Do not You & I" to Santana's Shaman . However, when Arista decided to release the song as a single in the summer of 2003, the Kroeger label, Roadrunner, denied permission, citing concerns that Kroeger appeared on "high profile single" would endanger the excitement over the autumn 2003 release. In 2003, Kroeger won the International Achievement Award for the song "Hero" at the SOCAN Awards in Toronto.
In 2007, Chad Kroeger worked with Santana for the second time, as he co-wrote and recorded guitar parts and vocals for a new song intended to appear on the Ultimate Santana compilation album. The song is called "Into the Night" and was released as a single on October 2, 2007. The album Ultimate Santana was released in October. In addition to working with Santana, Kroeger also recorded with Travis Tritt on his album The Storm , where Tritt performed cover of Nickelback's "Should've Listened" from The Long Road .
Kroeger also wrote and played guitar at Bo Bice's You're Everything .
Chad Kroeger, Eric Dill, Rune Westberg and Chris Daughtry wrote the debut single of Daughtry's new album. The single, entitled "No Surprise", debuted on American Idol Wednesday, May 6, 2009. Kroeger also helped write another song from the album titled "Life After You." He and Brett James co-wrote Tim McGraw 2009 "It's a Fun Business with You." Kroeger appeared on the Timbaland Shock Value 2 album with the song "Tomorrow in the Bottle", which also featured Sebastian. In 2010 he provided guest vocals, along with Ludacris and lead guitarist Zakk Wylde guest, on My Darkest Days's single "Porn Star Dancing." In 2011, Kroeger appeared on the new Steel Panther album Balls Out with the song "It Will not Suck Itself." In early 2012, it has been confirmed that Kroeger is working with French-Canadian pop rock singer Avril Lavigne on the forthcoming studio album fifth.
Personal life
In 2008, Kroeger was convicted of drunk driving in a British Columbia court after he was stopped for speeding in Surrey.
Kroeger began dating Canadian fellow rocker Avril Lavigne on July 1, 2012. The relationship developed after they began working together in March 2012 to write and record music for Lavigne's fifth album. Kroeger and Lavigne became engaged in August 2012. The couple married in southern France on July 1, 2013, Canada Day. Lavigne and Kroeger honeymooned in Portofino, Italy. In September 2014, entertainment media began reporting that Lavigne and Kroeger were heading for a farewell after just one year of marriage. On September 2nd, 2015, Lavigne announced their breakup through her official Instagram account.
In 2015, the second leg of the band's North American tour had to be canceled so Kroeger could have surgery for cysts in his larynx. The whole leg of the European tour was canceled as well.
