The Angel of Cuteness: Russian Blue Cat Personality
src: pixfeeds.com

The Blue Russian is a type of cat that comes in a color that varies from silver to glowing light to dark, gray slate. They develop close ties to their owners and are sought as pets because of their personality, beauty, and coat. This is a short and solid coat that has been the hallmark of Russian breed for more than a century. The thick coat protrudes from the body and one can draw a pattern on the mantle that will remain until one smooths them out again. They are also considered hypoallergenic.

Origin

Blue Russia is a natural breed that probably comes from the port of Arkhangel'sk in Russia. They are also sometimes called Archangel Blues. It is believed that the sailors brought the Russian Blues from Archangel Islands to England and Northern Europe in the 1860s. The first appearance recorded outside Russia was in 1875 at The Crystal Palace in England as the Archangel Cat. The Russian Blue competed in the class including all other blue cats until 1912, when it was given its own class. This breed was developed mainly in England and Scandinavia until after World War II.

Just after the war, the lack of number of Russian Blues led to a cross-breeding with Siamese. Although the Russian Blues were in the United States before the war, it was not until the post-war period that American breeders created the modern Russian Russia seen in the United States today. This is done by combining bloodlines from Scandinavian and English Russian Blues. The characteristics of siam now have largely been raised. Short hair and shades of gray/blue slate are often seen in mixed-type cats, which can affect breeders and bathrooms because of the mislabeling of cats as Russian blue.

Russian Blues is a short-haired blue gray cat with glittering green eyes. Silver-colored hair care gives a silvery cat or sparkling appearance. They have been used extensively to create other descendants such as Havana Brown or change existing breeds such as Nebelung. They are used in Italy as a way to make the healthier and stronger Oriental Shorthairs called RUS4OSH in FIFe.

Russian white and Russian Blacks were created from crossbreeding with domestic white cats that were allegedly imported from Russia. The first line was developed by Frances McLeod (Arctic) in England during the 1960s and the second line produced by Dick and Mavis Jones (Myemgay) in Australia in the 1970s. In the late 1970s, the colors of Russian White and Black Russian were accepted by cat fans in Australia as well as in South Africa and now also in England as Russian cats (in different classes). However, the Cat Fanciers' Association and FIFe do not recognize any variations of Blue Russia.

Physical Characteristics

Blue Russia has bright green eyes, lavender pink or mauve claws, two layers of short thick fur, and a blue-gray coat. The color is a bluish gray which is a watery expression of the black gene. However, since the aqueous gene is recessive ("d") and each parent will have a set of two recessive genes ("dd") two non-CPC Russian Blues will always produce a blue cat. Due to breeding with Siam after World War II, there are colorpoint genes floating around it. If two operators are raised together, they will produce a mixed garbage - blue or white solid color in blue like Siam. People call this CPC cat a "point of color", "white" or "pointy" Russian. In most of the registry, a person can not register, breed or show Russian dots of color.

This coat is known as a "double layer", with a soft, fluffy bottom layer and the same length as the guard hair, which is blue with a silver tip. However, its tail may have some very dull and almost invisible lines. The coat is described as thick, luxurious and soft to the touch. That feeling is softer than the softest silk. The silver tip gives a glittering look to the mantle. His eyes are almost always dark green and alive. Any white patches of feathers or yellow eyes in adulthood are seen as defects in a performance cat. Russian blues should not be confused with the British Blues (which are not a different kind, but British Shorthair with a blue coat because British Shorthair breed themselves come in different colors and patterns), or Chartreux or Korat which are two other native blue cat races, though they have the same nature.

Behavioral behavior

The Russian Blue is a curious and calm animal. They are known for their hospitality and wit and are somewhat reserved. They have been known to play pick up, open doors and be sensitive to human emotions. They enjoy playing with various toys and developing bonds that are faithful to their loved ones and other family pets. They are generally regarded as a quiet descendant but there are always exceptions. They are clean animals that are normally protected by foreigners, unless they are raised in active households. Many Russian Blues have been trained to do the trick. They can also be ferocious hunters, often catching rodents, birds, rabbits, small mammals, or reptiles.

Blue kittens are energetic Russian and require adequate playmates or toys because they can be naughty if bored. They have remarkable athleticism and rival the Abyssinians even because of their ability to jump and climb. Slow to adulthood, the Russian Blues retain many of their teenage properties well and vice versa until they are 3-4 years old and even older Blues can easily be attracted to play by their owners. Russian blues are also mentioned above very smart, they have excellent memory and will learn the hiding places of favorite toys (eg laser pointers) and direct their owners to them when they want a game. They also have a keen ability to remember favorite visitors and will race to greet familiar faces even though some time has passed between visits - a radical departure from their normally-protected behavior around unknown people.

Growth and maturity

Russian blues have a life expectancy of about 10-20 years, but some can even last up to a maximum of 25 years and have few health problems because they tend to have little or no genetic problems and are not susceptible to disease. They are small to medium cats weighing an average of 2.27-5.45 kg (5.0 to 12.0 pounds) as adults. Men are usually bigger than women. Their gestation period is about 64 days.

Allergies

Anecdotal evidence suggests that Russian Blue may be more tolerable by individuals with mild to moderate allergies. There is speculation that the Russian Blue produces fewer Fel-1 glycoproteins, one of the allergic sources of cats. Thicker layers can also trap more allergens closer to the skin of cats. Glycoproteins are one source of cat allergies, but this does not mean they are suitable to be nurtured with people who are allergic to cats because they will still cause allergies to be affected, only to a lesser extent for short periods of time.
