Poultry farming in Kenya is mostly done on a small scale, and especially for domestic consumption. Poultry farms are raising pet birds such as chickens, turkeys, ducks, and swans, for the purpose of farming meat or eggs for food. In the face of frequent food shortages and fluctuating prices, some farmers have used commercial poultry farming methods. These farmers are classified into the following categories:
The most common method of poultry farming in Kenya is chicken farming, although a small number of other rear breeders. Some farmers specialize in raising chickens only for meat (broilers), while others focus on chicken for egg production (coating); but others specialize in the maintenance of Kienyeji types (local chickens where chickens and hens live together).

Curry Boost Kienyeji Chicken by Homerange Poultry Kenya
Kari Improved chicken kienyeji is a local native chicken that is distributed by Homerange Poultry Kenya. This breed was developed by the Kenya Farm Agricultural Research Organization (KALRO) in 2012 as an ideal double purpose chicken for both meat and egg production. The breed is relatively cheaper to the back because it can be freely ranged and highly resistant to disease. This breed also matures faster ie start production at 4.5 months. This breed is commercially available as Old Age chicks or moon chicks which can be obtained from Homerange Poultry Kenya (http://www.homerangepoultry.com)
