A eating disorder in infancy or early childhood is the child's refusal to eat certain food groups, textures, solids or liquids for a period of at least one month, which causes the child not to gain enough weight, grows natural, or cause developmental delays. Eating disorders resemble failure to grow, except in times of eating disorders there is no medical or physiological condition that can account for the very small amount of food consumed by children or lack of growth. Several times the previous medical conditions that have been resolved cause problems.

Symptoms

Children who try to swallow different food textures often vomit, vomit or choke while eating. At meal times they may react negatively to attempts to feed them, and refuse to eat. Other symptoms include alternating head, crying, difficulty chewing or vomiting and spitting while eating. Many children may have difficulty eating and may be a picky person, but most of them still have a fairly healthy diet. However, children with eating disorders will actually leave some food groups, textures, or fluids necessary for human growth and development.

Children with this disorder can develop much more slowly due to lack of nutritional intake. In severe cases children seem to feel socially isolated because of the lack of social activities involving food.

Diagnosis

Barium swallowing tests are often performed, in which the child is given fluids or foods with barium in them. This allows medical practitioners to track consultation on swallowing functions on X-rays or other investigative systems such as CAT scans. Endoscopic assignment tests may also be performed, in which endoscopy is used to view the throat and throat on the screen. It can also be possible to see how the patient reacts during breastfeeding.

Treatment

There is no quick cure, and treatment will be based on what problems may cause eating disorders. Depending on the conditions, the following steps may be taken: increasing the amount of food received, increasing the number of calories and the amount of fluid; check for vitamin or mineral deficiency; find out what his illness or psychosocial problem is. To achieve this goal the patient may have to be hospitalized for a long period of time. Nursing involves professionals from different fields of study including, but not limited to; behavioral analysts (Behavioral Interventions), occupational and speech therapists specializing in eating disorders, dietitians, psychologists and physicians. To get the best results, care should include behavior modification plans under the guidance of some professionals. If the child has oral motor difficulty associated with eating disorders an occupational therapist or child trained in eating disorders and oral motor function will help develop the plan.
